What is an image?

Have you ever wondered how images are displayed on your television, phone, or monitor? Images on screens are displayed as grids of pixels. A pixel is essentially a dot or a square with a single color. We will cover more details regarding pixels in a later step.

Below is an image of a flower represented as a grid of pixels with a height of 9 squares and a width of 7 squares. Notice that each square is a pixel and each pixel has a single color.
